Reasoning with contradictory information using quasi-classical logic
نویسنده
چکیده
The proof theory of quasi-classical logic (QC logic) allows the derivation of non-trivializable classical inferences from inconsistent information. A non-trivializable, or paraconsistent, logic is, by necessity, a compromise, or weakening, of classical logic. The compromises on QC logic seem to be more appropriate than other paraconsistent logics for applications in computing. In particular, the connectives behave in a classical manner. Here we motivate the need for QC logic, present a proof theory, and semantics for the logic, and compare it to other paraconsistent logics.

Quasi-classical Logic: Non-trivializable classical reasoning from incosistent information
Here we present a new paraconsistent logic, called quasi-classical logic (or QC logic) that allows the derivation of non-trivializable classical inferences. For this it is necessary that queries are in conjunc-tive normal form and the reasoning process is essentially that of clause nding. We present a proof-theoretic deenition, and semantics, and show that the consequence relation observes reee...
متن کاملModel-Checking over Multi-valued Logics
Classical logic cannot be used to effectively reason about systems with uncertainty (lack of essential information) or inconsistency (contradictory information often occurring when information is gathered from multiple sources). In this paper we propose the use of quasi-boolean multi-valued logics for reasoning about such systems. We also give semantics to a multi-valued extension of CTL, descr...
متن کاملLogAG: An Algebraic Non-Monotonic Logic for Reasoning with Uncertainty
We present a weighted algebraic non-monotonic logic we refer to as LogAG for reasoning with uncertain beliefs. In LogAG, the classical logical formulas could be associated with ordered grades representing measures of uncertainty. The revision of beliefs in LogAG, when contradictions arise, is done according to the grades of the contradictory propositions. Throughout the paper, we present the sy...
متن کاملAutomated Paraconsistent Reasoning via Model Checking
Inconsistency is a pervasive problem in software engineering, where different aspects of a system are described in separate models. Resolving all the inconsistencies in a large set of models is often infeasible, in which case automated reasoning tools based on classical logic have limited application. In this paper we describe an automated tool for paraconsistent reasoning, using multi-valued l...
متن کاملQuasi-Classical Description Logic
In this paper, we present a paraconsistent description logic based on quasi-classical logic. Compared to the four-valued description logic, quasi-classical description logic satisfies all of the three basic inference rules (i.e., modus ponens, modus tollens and disjunctive syllogism) so that the inference ability of quasiclassical description logic is closer to that of classical logic. Quasicla...
